The college has a history spanning five decades. In 1960, the Khambhat Municipality completed 50 years and was celebrating its Golden Jubilee. Then the municipality president Shree Ranjitrai G. Shastri, a man of great vision and initiative, put before the member of municipality the idea of establishing a college in the town. A meeting of the leading citizens was held on 23rd August 1959, in which it was resolved that

  • A collage be started in the town
  • The college be named after the person giving the highest donation and
  • An appeal be made to all the citizens to strive for the success of this project.
Tremendous support was given to the proposal by various donors. Shree Maneklal Mohanlal Parekh, Shree Chimanbhai Parekh and Shree Amrutlalbhai Parekh donated Rs. 81,001 for Shree Rajani Parekh Arts College. A donation of Rs. 1,51,000 was received in the memory of Shrimati Bhikhuben Chandulal Jalundhvala for the science college. Shree Natwarlal Mohanlal Kharekwala donted Rs.31,000 for Mohanchand Vakhatchand Library. Shree Khambhat Taluka Sarvjanik Kelvani Mandal was established in a meeting in 25th October 1959. The trust’s constitution was made, various committees were formed and the trust was registered.
After receiving permission for Arts College from Gujarat University, Shri Rajani Parakh Arts College started from 15th June 1960 in municipality premises with a prominent writer Shri Pushkarbhai Chandrwakar as its Principal. The permission for Science College came in 1961. Both the colleges functioned in Shri Gusaiji Bethak premises from 15th June 1961. Fortunately the trust received a donation of 83 acres of land near Shri Gusaiji Bethak where college premises were constructed in a short period of four months only. The Science College had Dr.J.J. Trivedi as its Principal. Under his able leadership the college started centers for post graduation study and research.
